What Is a Road Dog and Why Do You Need One?

In my new book, I talk about the five characteristics road dogs embody so you can identify the road dogs in your life. Having road-dog relationships is critical to your personal happiness and your success.

Many of you have asked me about my seven pathways and how they have given me clarity in pursuing an uncompromising life.

Today is the day. Let’s explore them together. Join me in celebrating each one in the upcoming weeks as I unpack their meaning and why they strengthen my resolve to live with unflinching resolve.

My Pathways Countdown begins with number seven:

COMMIT TO ROAD-DOG RELATIONSHIPS.

You might be asking, “Steve, what’s a road-dog relationship?” A road-dog relationship is a bond with someone who is always there to back you up in the good times and bad. I realize that’s an unusual term to describe a close friend, but it’s one I latched onto many years ago because it was common in the neighborhood where I grew up. No matter what happens, if you have a road-dog relationship, you’ll never have to face anything alone. In my new book, I talk about the five characteristics road dogs embody so you can identify the road dogs in your life. Having road-dog relationships is critical to your personal happiness and your success. Don’t believe me? Ask Shawn Achor, the bestselling author who has an uncompromising approach to studying what makes people successful. According to Achor, “Social connection is the single greatest predictor of success, happiness, and longevity.”

In the spirit of our camaraderie and the dialogue we share online, I’d like to be your road dog for the day and give you access to a new workbook I recently developed that reflects a philosophy that has carried me through the years.

You might have noticed the word “clarity” in the opening of this post. Having clear eyes and an open mind to the opportunities before me has been a difference maker, so I’ve created a “Leading with Clarity” workbook.

There are two versions—one for individuals and one for teams. Download the right one for you and learn more about how I approach projects and challenges. I look forward to your feedback!

Finally, I created this workbook to work best in groups. Send the download link to your leadership teams or business cohorts. Start a conversation and discover just how powerful clarity can be.

Live your why,

Steve
